An HDR MAX image document (HMD) stores image data, tonal adjustments, as well as the actual exposures used to create the HDR image. If an image was created using an HDR image, the HMD file can alternatively store a composite HDR image, instead of the individual exposure data. HMD is a special image file format that can only be read by HDR MAX.
HMD files provide significant advantages over standard HDR files in that various meta data, such as exposure times, author name, , is embedded inside the file, providing a portable, centralized file format.
The Radiance image file format, better known as HDR, is a 32-bit per channel image format used for storing high dynamic range image data.
