While HDR MAX supports many image file formats for creating HDR images, there are only two types of files formats it will open for editing and generating output: HDR MAX documents (HMD) and HDR documents (HDR).
HDR MAX and HDR images can be opened by:
- Choosing File > Open.
- Specify the image type you want to open: HMD, or HDR.
- Select the name of the file you want to open.
- Click Open.

Note: Because of the resource-intensive nature of high dynamic range image processing, you may notice increased processing times while editing significantly larger images. In these situations, you can drastically increase performance by editing your images at a reduced size. See 'Image Zooming', in the 'Workspace' section of this help document for more information.
